Ruminal kinetics, rumen by-pass measurements plus devevelopment of NIR prediction models for feed constituents.
Ruminal digestion kinetics can be generated for each of the principal components in a feed: DM, starch, fiber, fat and nitrogen. Our expertise is in the analysis of hay, fermented forages, grains and animal feed additives.
Analytical procedures include ruminal in-situ and in-vitro incubations and in-vitro illeal (ruminant and swine) using semi-purified enzymes. These procedures measure the amount of a nutrient which is and is not degraded in the rumen plus the measurement of digestibility post-ruminally of the quantity which is not degraded in the rumen.
In our Environmental Room, we measure changes during storage of temperature, pH, VFAs, and dry matter loss during anaerobic storage (silage in bags, jars or buckets). We measure aerobic stability by the Honig Method.
On our 240 acres we can conduct strip trial evaluations of corn, soybeans and alfalfa.
