In May 2004 after his retirement from Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., Donald started his own business in rural Slater, Iowa, dedicated to the rapid analysis of digestion and fermentation kinetics in forages and feeds. During his twenty-five years with Pioneer, Donald both developed and promoted products for markets primarily in Europe, Asia and countries in the Pacific Rim. He also managed for several years the Pioneer Livestock Nutrition Centers in Iowa and in three European countries.

His research facility in Slater has the capacity to perform in-situ digestion in cattle and in-vitro digestion with rumen fluid. It also has the capacity to perform in-vitro, semi-purified enzymatic digestion that mimics illeal digestion in swine and cattle. He also develops, sells, standardizes and maintains a line of portable NIR instruments based on novel NIR probe technology, diffuse reflection, that makes it possible for the analyst to bring the NIR instrument to the feed and to provide an almost instantaneous nutritional analysis. His NIR services include the calculation and maintenance of custom NIR prediction models for those clients who desire to maintain proprietary intellectual property.

Don received his B.S. in biology from the University of Notre Dame and his doctorate in nutritional biochemistry from Kansas State University.
